Five Things To Expect From Your First Essentrics Class at Verve

At Verve, we offer an array of different movement classes to pique your interest in mobility and wellness. One of our featured offerings that makes us unique from other fitness and wellness centers in Longmont is Essentrics®.

Essentrics was created by former dancer Miranda Esmonde-White and draws on the flowing movements of Tai Chi— creating health and balance in the body. This body weight-only practice pulls from the strengthening theories behind ballet which creates long, lean, flexible muscles and the healing principles of physiotherapy which create a pain-free body.

We offer several Essentrics classes on the schedule each week including Essentrics, Essentrics Barre, and Release & Restore (formally known as Aging Backwards).

In an effort to prepare you for your first class— here’s what you can expect:

  1. Friendly, Knowledgeable Instructors- We pride ourselves on our top-notch team of instructors, and our Essentrics instructors are no exception. They are happy to help you settle in, meet a new friend, and lead you through an incredible class! If you have questions or notice any discomfort during your initial time with us, they are happy to help you explore some options that will make your next experience even better.

  2. Fun Music- Our instructors are known to put the best playlists together to match the mood of the class. Don’t be surprised if find yourself doing side leg lifts to your favorite song on the radio!

  3. Flowing Movement- Don’t let the word “flowing” stop you— by flowing, we mean each move seamlessly connects to the next. This total body workout is meant for the absolute beginner as well as the experienced mover. Essentrics moves at a moderate pace that is agreeable with all levels of fitness.

  4. Strength & Flexibility- The name “Essentrics” comes from the fitness concept of eccentric contraction. Eccentric movement is the motion of an active muscle while it is lengthening under load. Instead of shortening the muscle while we strengthen it (think bicep curls at the gym), we’re working to find length and mobility in the muscles while we strengthen, which ultimately helps to prevent injuries.

  5. The Feeling Of “Ahhhhhh” After Class- When you leave your first Essentrics class, you might find that you feel a little taller, more open in the muscles and joints, and ready to take on the rest of your day or night (depending on when you come to take class). Essentrics classes are great for everyone and we hope you’ll come find your “ahhhh” moment with us soon.
